Benefits of Joining the League of Women Voters

Joining the League of Women Voters (LWV) offers a wide range of civic, educational, and personal benefits that go beyond just voting. Joining is a way to deepen your civic involvement, expand your knowledge, and build meaningful connections while making a tangible difference in your community and beyond.

1. Connect with Civic‑Minded People. You’ll meet others who share your passion for democracy, voting rights, and public policy. These relationships can become friendships, partnerships, and support networks for activism.

2. Access to Educational Resources. LWV provides nonpartisan information, newsletters, voter guides, and workshops to help you understand complex political issues and make informed decisions.

3. Influence Policy and Advocacy. Members can participate in advocacy campaigns, meet with elected officials, and help shape legislation on issues like voting rights, environmental protection, and social justice.

4. Leadership and Skill Development. Volunteering in committees, organizing events, and leading projects builds leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills that benefit both civic work and your career.

5. Flexible Participation. You can choose how and when to get involved—whether through meetings, voter registration drives, or special projects—so you can fit it into your schedule.

6. Nonpartisan Civic Engagement. LWV is a grassroots, nonpartisan organization focused on informed and active participation in government, helping you stay engaged without political bias.

7. Broader Network and Recognition. Membership in the local Clallam League connects you to the League of Women Voters of Washington and the League of Women Voters of the United States, giving you access to a nationwide network of advocates.

8. Community Impact. Through voter registration, forums, and outreach, you help strengthen democracy locally and contribute to a more informed electorate.

Meeting Dates & Times

Monthly Council Meetings:  Council meetings are typically held the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Currently we are meeting in person at the PUD Administration Building at 104 Hooker Rd in Sequim.  If you plan to attend, please contact our Secretary a few days before at info@lwvcla.org  to confirm the meeting location and time.

Committee/Team Meetings: Committees and teams meet up as needed. depending on the projects they are working on. They may meet in person or via Zoom on a date/time/location that is convenient for that committee's members.  If the activity level is high, they may meet more than once a month, or communicate additionally via email or text. Once you have joined a committee or team, you will be notified of the next meeting's date/time/location. If you are interested in joining one, attend a  meeting before you make your decision. Contact us at info@lwvcla.org  beforehand to let us know of your interest and to obtain the next meeting date, time. and location.

Gatherings: In addition to monthly council meetings, we gather socially throughout the year. Some events are held at the home of a League member, some at a special venue. We encourage ALL members to attend, and to bring their significant other to these events! Dates, times. and locations are announced in member newsletters and on the Online Calendar.

In Winter we hold an All Membership Program Planning Meeting. At this meeting we select and outline upcoming priorities and work for the coming year. We hear about upcoming legislation affecting issues that we are interested in, welcome new members, and visit.

In Late Spring we hold an All Membership Annual Meeting.  At this meeting, we nominate and elect board or council members and chairs and find out what is going on in the various committees. We typically have a speaker. If you'd like to become more active in the Clallam league, attending these meetings is a great way to find out if your interests, skills, or experience match up with any of our League activities.

Strategic Planning Retreat: This retreat for council members and committee chairs is held annually in the Summer, usually at someone's home.
