Committees

The Board or Council is the administrative and policy-making arm of the League. It provides direction and leadership in carrying out members’ decisions and is ultimately responsible for all plans and activities of committees, study groups and ad hoc groups. Once the Board or Council approves a study, project or program in broad outline, the responsible Director and/or Committee determines the details and, with regular progress reports to the Board or Council, sees that the plan is carried out.

Chair: Bonnie Bless-Boenish, Co-Chair: Helle Andersen The Civic Education Committee is focusing on youth and young voters. We organize two voter registration events per year in conjunction with local Back-To-School Events. We also promote and help to implement elections and voting in schools and school visits. New in 2022-23 was the Mock Trial Club at Sequim High School. We also helped to send two high school students to be Legislative Pages. Through a state civics ed grant, we purchased civics picture books and kits with copies of the League textbook, the State We're In: Washington which are available for check out at NOLS.

Chair: Deb Cannon. The Voter Services Committee organizes and facilitates candidate forums prior to special, primary and general elections to educate and inform citizens and help them be better prepared to cast their votes.

Chair: Katie Woodin. The Observer Corps is a dedicated group of League members who regularly attend public meetings of local government jurisdictions (such as the Cities of Port Angeles and Sequim and the Board of County Commissioners) and provide written summaries of these meetings to the League membership.

Chair: Stephanie Sherman. The Welcome Team provides orientations to new members; provides membership information to the local Board, State and National Leagues; and helps organize and present at All-Membership meetings (approx. 4 per year).

Chair: T Lyn. Publicity maintains the Club Express Association Management System and the LWVCLA website; produces the bi-monthly newsletter; writes press releases; produces a bi-monthly newsletter; posts regularly on the Leagues social media outlets; and produces print and digital media as needed to promote League activities.

Chair: Jeene Hobbs This is a relatively new Team (2024). Its current focus is on the issues of water.

Chair: Kelly Dyer. The DEI Committee's focus is to apply a "DEI Lens' to the local League's processes, activities, outreach, and communications to insure that there are no barriers to full participation in the League on the basis of gender, gender identity, ethnicity, race, native or indigenous origin, age, generation, sexual orientation, culture, religion, belief system, marital status, parental status, socioeconomic status, language, accent, ability status, mental health, educational level or background, geography, nationality, work style, work experience, job role function, thinking style, personality type, physical appearance, political perspective or affiliation and/or any other characteristic that can be identified as recognizing or illustrating diversity.

Chair: Open. The Healthcare Committee studies the status of healthcare and health insurance locally, in Washington, and nationally. The Committee presents public information events about healthcare-related issues, and supports and works toward the national League of Women Voters' position on healthcare.

Group Leader: Mary Foster. The book group focuses on the current American political scene, as well as the historical events and figures which contributed to it. The book group gives League members an opportunity to discuss political concepts in a nonpartisan manner, to educate themselves on current developments relevant to League positions and concerns, and to share social time with each other.

Leader: Marcia Radey. League members meet on Tuesdays to walk the Olympic Discovery Trail. Meet at either the west end Carlsborg parking lot at 9:00 am and walk east or at the Audubon Center at 9:30 am and walk west.
